Color Printing Costs Skyrocket in Remote Offices

In this solution brief/case study we explore how a customer utilized the OM Plus color control functionality to ensure that only documents that were approved were able to print in color. 

Business Problem – Plus Technologies implemented what is referred to as an intelligent color cost control solution based on OM Plus.

A significant, hidden portion of printing in color involves the printing of too many of an office’s documents in color—A lot of these documents do not need to be and should not be printed in color for any reason.

In order to improve efficiency and consolidate devices, color printers are often installed as a branch office’s single printer. Unfortunately, this leads to an abundance of printed business documents coming out in color (requiring too much color toner use) that do not need to be in color.

All print jobs sent to the color laser are monitored by the OM Plus suite, and based on the document’s meta-data, OM Plus determines whether it is a company approved color print job. If the document is approved, the job is allowed to print in color. If it is not approved, OM Plus sends the print job to the printer, but only as a black and white print job. This reduces the color laser costs by as much as 7 cents per page.
