German Company Standardizes on OM Plus

OMPlus_OM_WhiteOne of the world’s leading form-work and scaffolding manufacturers and suppliers, with an annual revenue of over $1 billion and subsidiaries in more than 50 countries has implemented OM Plus print software in 13 locations across their network.

One reason this company is successful in their market, is their own custom built ERP system, and Sales and Distribution. This system provides the IT processes for the business models that make them so successful.

In order to provide a reliable service for so many countries, this company has several servers, split along geographical lines (Europe, Afria, Asia, America, etc.). These servers are all in Germany but the printers they serve are located around the world. Each server has an OM Plus system installed and the system prints via these OM Plus servers.

There are two main print variants; line text based and XML based. OM Plus print software is integral to the operation and management of both document streams.

The line text based output is generally routed through a single OM Plus server who is responsible for delivery to the output devices throughout the enterprise, regardless where they are located.

With XML based output, document composition is required. In this case, OM Plus manages the routing of document output through a system that converts the XML into PCL and PDF formatted
documents suitable for printing and archiving. OM Plus print routing then takes the formatted documents schedules and routes them to the appropriate printer confirming delivery,
providing fail-over capabilities, capturing print data and providing centralized error recovery tools. Hundreds of incoming jobs per minute are processed based on the output queues.

Industry Analysts see Managed Print Services Market Shifting

OMPlus_OMPrinter oem’s, copier dealers, and office equipment dealers have been offering managed print services (MPS) for some time now. IDC estimates that the market for MPS is approximately $2.7B and growing at over 16% per year. Gartner Group defines MPS as a service offered by an external provider to optimize or manage a company’s document output.

Typically MPS includes a needs assessment, replacement of printer hardware, equipment maintenance, and provision of printer supplies. Customers pay for this service on a ‘per-page’ (usage) basis. To enable this billing model, MPS providers need a reliable tool that can monitor printer supplies, monitor device alerts, measure device ‘uptime’ and capture device metrics (for billing). Plus Technologies OM Plus Fleet Manager (FM) is a tool that provides all these features and more and used to by MPS providers to empower their service.

Recently Gartner Group released studies that indicate that the MPS market may be shifting focus from managing customers’ devices to managing customers’ ‘document output workflow” in order to improve business processes and customer efficiencies. Gartner is calling this emerging market Managed Content Services (MCS). This market shift is leading MPS providers to look for more advanced document workflow and routing tools such as OM Plus Delivery Manager (DM) as DM can ingest documents from numerous sources – examine the ‘context’ of these documents – and make real-time routing decisions based on customer-defined business rules.

Other ways OM Plus can improve document-related business practices include: improving print security with pull print-related solutions, reducing print server overhead by providing scalability reducing the number of servers needed, integrating into complex business systems such as Epic and SAP and streamlining the output generated from those systems, enhancing cloud and mobile print with our i-Sat solution.

Multi-Billion Dollar Bank Using OM Plus to Increase Print Throughput

Bank sign

A $24B bank has selected OM Plus Delivery Manager (DM) print software to increase productivity in its check printing operations. This bank needs to print several thousand checks at a time. Rather than printing on large high speed printers that are extremely expensive to operate the bank has decided to print checks on low cost laser printers. In order to achieve the needed throughput on the laser printers, printing must take place in a parallel process across multiple printers (12 in one country’s case). Checks are created on the bank mainframe and formatted with a software product called CheckPlusCFO from Printech Global Secure Payment Solutions.

After this process the checks are passed to Delivery Manager print software where its load balancing feature is used to spread the batches across the devices. Delivery Manager provides print confirmation feature by communicating directly with the devices to ensure all checks are printed properly, as well as a hold and release feature so that operators may select and print jobs to when needed. The net effect is that the bank saves cost, improves productivity, and ensures quality.

My-Print-Delivery Enhancement Reminder

ompMPDSoftwarePlus Technologies continues to work to enhance our My-Print-Delivery (MPD) product. As a reminder some of the recent enhancements: MPD can run as an embedded solution on Lexmark, Xerox EIP 2.0+, as well as enabled HP and Dell devices. With the embedded solution one would only need a USB card reader instead of the more expensive Ethernet card readers.

Also Plus Technologies has a My-Print-Delivery ‘Express’ version that acts sort of like the simple card tap/Ethernet version. When a user taps their card, their jobs print without having to go through a select/release process. One can run the ‘Express’ and Standard version on a printer so an end user has a choice of how to release their jobs. Administrative users may want the ability to select various jobs and clinical users may just want the fastest way to get their jobs. This functionality can save money by going with the embedded/USB reader version and still giving fast or selective print release experiences.

Automotive Manufacturer using OM Plus to Streamline Output Management Function

MLADA BOLESLAV, CZECH REPUBLIC - APRIL 16: Skoda Auto celebrates 20th Anniversary of Association with Volkswagen by Open Doors Day on April 16, 2011 in Mlada Boleslav

An automotive parts manufacturer with over $40B in annual revenue, 170,000 employees, dozens of manufacturing locations across North America and Asia has implemented OM Plus output management software to streamline document output from its core back-office systems.

OM Plus print software has been implemented on 26 server systems across the enterprise to ingest documents from several ‘back-office’ systems such as MFG/Pro. OM Plus replaces and enhances the spooling function to increase system scalability, improve system performance, ensure accurate routing of documents, enhance diagnostics, and streamline help desk operations.

OM Plus allows users to see status and control documents as they are routed throughout the enterprise regardless of the system that created the documents and the final destination. The improved fidelity of the output management system allows the manufacturer to meet more customer deadlines and avoid late fees and penalties. OM Plus also saves IT and help desk resource as trouble shooting and problem resolution is improved.
This customer takes advantage of Plus Technologies’ subscription licensing program to minimize up front capital costs and save money.

Retailer Using Print Software to Improve SAP Output

A furniture retailer based in Minnesota with 8 distribution center, 14 retail locations, and over 500 printers is using OM Plus Delivery Manager (DM). They are using Delivery Manager print spooling software to improve performance of SAP system. Moreover, being in the high-end furniture and design business; performance of SAP output is critical as it can impact customer service. Furthermore, meeting timely delivery deadlines is a priority for this user. In addition to SAP output, OM Plus is used to manage the output created by users in their Citrix/Windows-based system.

OM Plus spooling software is used to confirm that printing of SAP created actually occurred by utilizing “bi-directional print confirmation” from the printer itself. The printer returns print status to OM Plus and, OM Plus returns that status to the SAP System itself via the certified BC-XOM interface so that end users can see real-time status in their SAP UI.
The environment for this OM Plus solution includes multiple operating systems and server types including HP-UX and Windows.
