DAYTON, OHIO, June 3, 2008 – Plus Technologies, the Enterprise Print Solutions division of Digital Controls Corporation, announced today a significant customer win where OM Plus was purchased instead of CUPS (Common UNIX Print System). This win was at Global Organization that discovers, develops, manufactures and sells pharmaceutical and nutritional products such as drug delivery systems, antibiotics and prepared infant formulas.

This is one of the first CUPS competitive wins for Plus Technologies since releasing a technical brief comparing OM Plus to CUPS (Common UNIX Print System). The testing was done by Plus Technologies and a thorough analysis of CUPS vs OM Plus was conducted.

CUPS can be initially very attractive as a freeware solution vs solutions like OM Plus, but this report is helping organizations compare the complete costs associated with a freeware solution vs a fully supported, commercial software solution like OM Plus. Note: There is some level of commercial support available for CUPS since this Report was originally authored.

This customer had gone through multiple output management project leaders over four years and each one had to get up to speed on their home grown LPRNG-based output solution. As their team analysed the options for replacement of this home grown solution, many on the team encouraged the use of CUPS (an open source, free software solution). However, when Plus Technologies was engaged to propose a solution based on their commercially available and supported OM Plus Output Management software, the customer&nbsprealized that four years of unsupported output management software was enough. In order to get more efficient and be able to get print support issues off their desks, they chose OM Plus as their enterprise standard for Output Management. Utilizing OM Plus freed up resources that could then be applied to much more strategic projects.
