Zero Footprint SAP Solution Provided for SaaS Environment

A large organization in the medical radiology and imaging business needed to make multiple software technology transitions to update their IT infrastructure. This process included moving from on-premise systems to a hosted environment which included SaaS and IaaS solutions. Their incumbent enterprise output management system (HP Dazel – Opentext Output Server) would not run in their new environment architecture. Their electronic forms system (Adobe Central – Jetforms) would not run in the new environment either. In addition, they needed to move and upgrade their on-premise SAP ECC system to SAP Business Suite in the HANA Enterprise Cloud (HEC).

There were several challenges with this migration plan including a tight schedule, the HANA Enterprise Cloud SaaS solution not allowing 3rd party software to co-reside on the application, and a period of old system/new system overlap to allow for forms redevelopment.

This provided the following challenge: “Aggressive” mid-June target for migrating existing on-prem SAP ECC instances to SAP Business Suite on HANA in SAP’s cloud data center (in Sterling, VA and Santa Clara, CA).
The HANA Enterprise Cloud is a SaaS solution not allowing for 3rd party software to co-reside on app servers.
Also, they were currently using Adobe Central 5.6 (JetForms) & Smartforms, but needed to transition to one going forward solution, with a period of legacy operation while performing transition/forms redevelopment.

Solution:

The customer selected OM PLus Delivery Manager (DM) from Plus Technologies to replace HP/Opentext Dazel Output Server. OM PLus DM can work in both an on-premise and SaaS environment and has a unique zero footprint install where the install on hosted SAP servers is not permitted. With OM Plus zero-install Application Server Interface a means of bi-directional application interfacing (passing output and related metadata, status, and SAP user commands) is provided.

In addition, OM Plus supports a variety of O/S environments enabling OS changes from UNIX to Linux, WIndows, or another UNIX variant, as well ad Windows version upgrades (for forms processing). Also OM Plus is integrated with 3rd party software like driver management and eforms/document composition which enables a smooth migration.
