Plus Technologies’ OM Plus Delivery Manager (DM) print software is being considered by some organizations as a replacement for CUPS.
CUPS is an open source product that provides some limited print spooling functions. However, questions about product technical support and function have led some users to consider OM Plus DM as a replacement.
Some of the features lacking in CUPS that users are looking for in OM Plus include:
A new Web Client version is now available. This new version is number 3.1.3.0001. Some of the changes/enhancements include:
An update to the View Job command in the request status screen. Previously there was a limited number of data types that the web client would allow you to view. Now only the ‘graphics’ type is unviewable (for safety reasons).
A new Printer Load Balance video is available from Plus Technologies for its OM Plus suite of print management software products. The video demonstrates how easy it is to set up print load balancing and can be found on our Solution section of our website under Load Balancing.
What is Printer Load Balancing?
Print load balancing or printing across multiple printers can significantly improve overall document output performance and speed. Printer load balancing is also sometimes called printer pooling. In high performing print environments, jobs can quickly become stacked, waiting for their turn to print. With Printer Load Balancing, documents are routed to the next available printer and begin printing right away.
Plus Technologies just released a new Printer Failover video for its popular OM Plus print management software products. The video illustrates how easy it is to set up printer failover inside of OM Plus. Print Failover is one of our most popular enterprise printing solutions. It can be found in the solutions section of our website under Printer Failover.
Cloud vs On-Premise: On-Premise is Still Going Strong
We recently came across a study published by Aberdeen Research group that is focussed on the growth of Cloud Solutions. Given all the recent headlines on the rapid growth of Cloud Solutions we were a bit surprised that the Aberdeen paper found that on-premise solutions are still going strong.
Below is an excerpt from the Aberdeen paper:
“Every day, one comes across statements or truisms that people take as common knowledge but that are actually wrong. For years now, we’ve heard the constant predictions that everything would be moved to the public cloud and that businesses, and especially small to mid-sized ones, would no longer need any on-premises infrastructure at all. But these predictions have proven to be inaccurate. In fact, Aberdeen research has shown that, over the last three years, organizations have actually increased their use of on-premises servers and infrastructure. Since 2018 deployments using private cloud and on-premises systems have nearly doubled.
Tied to all of these changes is the move to hybrid cloud, which is enabling organizations to get the most out of both their public cloud resources and their on-premises server capabilities. And in response to all of these changes, businesses came to the realization that the previous driver to put every workload on the Cloud was no longer the best strategy. In fact, many organizations have put this movement into reverse, and have moved workloads from the public cloud and back to on-premises implementations.”
Plus Technologies provides world class Enterprise Output Management software. But just what is EOM? Enterprise Output Management (EOM) solutions are middleware software solutions that automate the production, distribution, formatting, delivery, and management of output streams from any enterprise and/or desktop application to any physical or visual output channel. Meaning it can capture output from your ERP, CRM, EMR, and other line-of-business applications and send it to a printer, a web-based document archive, email recipient, fax server, or other destination.
As middleware, EOM solutions relieve desktop and enterprise applications from the burden of document delivery, formatting, and tracking. zEOM can also confirm that the documents that need to be printed actually did print. This can increase the performance and stability of your critical IT systems and improve regulatory compliance.
More and more employees are working from home. However, working from home can present corporate print issues. In some cases, work-at-home employees need to print documents at home that are created on systems at the office. In other cases, employees need to print documents created at home at the office. Both these cases can be problematic.
OM Plus Stats Manager (SM) – Print Metrics and Statistics
OM Plus customers are taking advantage of OM Plus Stats Manager to capture the who + what + when print statistics. OM Stats Manager (SM) is a printing solutions application that enables organizations to analyze and understand the who, what, when, and where of printing, copying, faxing, and scanning in their enterprise.
By collecting print spooling data Stats Manager is able to provide user based print metrics in addition to device based data. This user based metric allows organizations to understand who is printing, what they are printing, when they are printing, what application the documents are coming from, and even the titles of the documents.
Unlike other printing solutions, Stats Manager provides scheduled reports as well as an ad-hoc query capability to enable users to search for the data as they require it.

HIMSS (Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society) is the leading health information and technology conference in the United States. This conference brings together 45,000+ professionals to discuss IT solutions for the healthcare industry.
Plus Technologies will attend this year’s event in Orlando, Florida (March 9-13) as we have in past years. We will be available to meet and discuss our healthcare solutions at multiple booths.
In particular, our secure pull print solution referred to as, My-Print-Delivery (MPD), will be shown at the Imprivata booth #3541. It will highlight our integration with their access management solution for pull print, card tap authentication. Pull printing enables users to submit jobs to an enterprise pull print queue that holds their jobs until they walk up to an enabled printer, authenticate, and release their jobs. This enables users to utilize the same card tap methodology to get their print jobs as they use to login to various workstations/applications. Imprivata is the leading digital identity company for healthcare.
